Gambilionibus, A. de, Tractatus de maleficiis. Cum additionibus Augustini de Bonfrancischis. Venice, Johann Herbort, 30 April 1483. Contemp. Southern German half pigskin binding with blindtooling on 4 double bands over wooden boards with 2 brass clasps. Large folio. 154 unnumb. ll. Gothic type. 2 columns. 66 lines.

Rare edition by Johann Herbort von Seligenstadt, who came to Venice at an old age, presumably in order to execute printing commissions of the Colonia-Jenson-Society (cf. Geldner). Prints from his print shop are dated between 1481 and 1485. - The often printed, however, rare work by the famous jurist Angelus de Gambilionibus are part of his commentary of Corpus Iurus civilis Iustiniani. "Published as Sammelband and individual editions, they were highly treasured." (GW)
2 further jurist works bound in: I: Bartolus de Saxoferrator , Consilia, quaestiones et tractatus. With woodcut printer's device in red print. Venice, Johannes et Gregorius de Gregoriis, 7th March, 1485. 162 unnumb. ll. (first blank). Gothic type. 2 columns. 78 lines. - GW 3539. - Hain/Cop. 13270. - Goff B 211. - BMC V, 340. - BSB B-123. - Third edition of the 'Consilia' , one of the multiple printed works by the Italian jurist Bartolus de Saxoferrato (14th century). - Fine printer's device by Husung 159. - II: Pontanus, L. , Singularia juris. With numerous drawn in paraph signs in red and blue. Venice, Johannes de Colonia and Johannes Manthen 1475. 47 unnumb. ll. (first and last blank). Roman type. 2 cols. 50 lines. - Hain/Cop. 13270. - GW M34988. - Goff P 928. - BMC V, 231. - BSB P-703. - The early deceased Ludovico Pontano (1409-39) was one of the most famous jurists in Italy. His comprehensive concile speeches and tractates are important documents of conciliar speech culture. This work was first published in Venice in 1471. - Elegant Antiqua print by Johann von Köln and Johann Manthen.
Lower and upper margins mostly with slight waterstaining, last leaves with some wormholes, 1 leaf of the 3rd work with tear, here and there contemp. marginalia, foliated throughout by contemp. hand; a fourth work of about 20 leaves has been removed from the beginning (possibly Johannes Andreae's "Super arboribus consanguinitatis"). Binding somewhat stained and bumped, some worming in places, first and last quire loosened, front board nearly detached. Unaltered volume with clean wide-margined printings on strong paper, rear pastedown with ownership inscription dated 1485.

GW 10525. - Hain/Reichl. 1626. - Goff G 61. - Klebs 435.9. - Not in BMC and the BSB.
