Conrad Felixmüller
1897 Dresden - 1977 Berlin
Kleines Herbststilleben (Gurken, Birnen, Pfirsiche, Tomaten) mit Meißner Schale. 1942.
Oil on fibreboard.
Felixmüller 957. Signed, dated and inscribed "Damsdorf" lower center. 40 x 50 cm (15,7 x 19,6 in).
PROVENANCE: Private collection Saxony-Anhalt (in 1972 acquired from Hanns-Conon von der Gabelentz, Altenburg).
In 1941 Conrad Felixmüller moved to Damsdorf, a small community in the Mark Brandenburg, where he made our fine still life a year later. As he wrote in the catalog raisonné, he painted the work between 9 and 12 September. In the arrangement of seasonal fruits and vegetables, both on the table as well as in the fine porcelain bowl, the artist's pise in coloring becomes obvious. The composition's lively color accents make for the picture's particular appeal. [KP].
