Geiler von Kaisersberg (1445-1510) war der bedeutendste Prediger seiner Zeit, in seinen Schriften und Predigten geißelte er die weltliche wie die geistliche Obrigkeit. "Die Predigtsammlung von 1508 gilt als die erste Buchausgabe von Geilers Schriften" (Biedermann).
EINBAND: Restaurierter blindgeprägter Kalblederband d. Zt. über Holzdeckeln mit 2 Messing-Schließen. Folio. 28,5 : 20 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 3 blattgroßen altkolorierten Holzschnitten von H. Burgkmair sowie 4 Holzschnitt-Medaillons auf dem Titel (Evangelistensymbole) und 4 altkolorierten rot- oder schwarzgrundigen Holzschnitt-Initialen. Ferner mit zahlr. eingemalten Lombarden in Rot. - KOLLATION: 156 röm. num. Bll. - ZUSTAND: Bl. 38 mit ganzseit. Holzschnitt aus einem altkolor. Exemplar der zweiten Ausgabe (Augsburg 1510) ergänzt. - Vereinz. schwach gebräunt und gering fleckig, zu Beginn etw. wurmstichig (überwieg. im Randbereich), wenige hinterl. Eckläsuren, tls. mit alten Marginalien (17. Jh.), das ergänzte Bl. unten angerändert, die alten flieg. Vorsätze wurmstichig. Insgesamt gutes Exemplar. - PROVENIENZ: Innendeckel mit mod. Exlibris.

Contemporary colored copy of the first edition. With beautiful woodcuts by Hans Burgkmair, the "first actual illustrations by the master" (Muther). - With 3 magnificent fullpage woodcuts, 4 woodcut medailions on the title (symbols of evangelists), 4 large initials on red or black ground colored by old hand and numerous painted lombards in red. Restored blindtooled calf on wooden boards with 2 brass clasps. 156 numb. leaves. - Leaf 38 with fullpage woodcut replaced from a colored copy of the second edition (Augsburg 1510). - Here and there minor browning and slight staining, some wormholes at beginning (mostly in the margins), few backed corners, here and there 17th cent. marginalia, the replaced leaf remargined at bottom, old flying endpapers wormy. Altogether good copy. - Mod. bookplate.
