Ramié 190. Stand inscribed "Edition Picasso" and numbered and stamped "EDITION PICASSO" and "MADOURA PLEIN FEU". From an edition of 200 copies. Height: ca. 32 cm (12.5 in). [EH].
• Red clay with pastel: an unusual technique.
• According to Ramié, there is only one work number made in this technique.
• Picasso's outstanding ceramics are honored in an exhibition at Museum Schloss Moritzburg, Halle/Saale.
PROVENANCE: Galerie Koch, Hanover.
Private collection North Rhine-Westphalia (acquired from the above in 1974).
This two-handled vase occupies a special rank in Picasso's ceramic work. Ramié's catalog raisonné does not list any other vase with pastel decoration. This makes it a particularly fine example of the technical diversity of Picasso's works from the Madoura workshop.
