Signed and dated, lower left inscribed "Bildnis U". On wove paper. 27.6 x 22 cm (10.8 x 8.6 in). Sheet: 44,5 x 34,8 cm (17,5 x 13,7 in).

• Schmidt-Rottluff masterfully reduced the facial features of the sitter to a few clear elements in the characteristic black and white contrast.
• In no other printmaking medium did Karl Schmidt-Rottluff realize his ideas of expressionist graphic art as consistently as in the woodcut.
