Inscribed "K 272" by a hand other than that of the artist. One of only three known copies. On brownish wove paper. 25 x 34.7 cm (9.8 x 13.6 in), the full sheet. [CH].
• One of only three known copies, one of which is museum-owned (Städtische Sammlungen, Tübingen).
• Only one other copy of this woodcut has been offered on the international auction market in the last 35 years (source: artprice.com).
• In the same year, he created the painting "Im Park" (formerly Hermann Gerlinger Collection), with a flickering color structure that the artist transferred to the woodcut in a particularly successful way.
• With their novel, unconventional prints, Kirchner and the "Brücke" artists breathed new life into the then unpopular medium of printmaking.
PROVENANCE: Barbara Wentzel, Stuttgart (inherited from Prof. Hans Wentzel, presumably in 1975).
