• The silent encounter of the figures conveys a subtle tension and an introspection and melancholy characteristic of his work.
• Within Hofer's painterly oeuvre, the paintings of couples are among the artist's most sought-after and powerful creations.
• The artist's works are currently part of the acclaimed exhibition "Glanz und Elend. Neue Sachlichkeit in Deutschland” at the Leopold Museum in Vienna (until September 29, 2024).
The work is listed in the previously unpublished catalogue raisonné of Karl Hofer's watercolors and drawings under the number 1001. We would like to thank the Karl Hofer Archive, Cologne, for their kind support in cataloging this lot.
