Schlafende. 1914.
With a sketch in ink on verso
Lavierte Brush and India ink drawing and pencil.
Signedanddated lower right. On laid paper (with watermark). 50,8 : 33 cm (20 : 12,9 in), the full sheet. The subject of sleeping people had been used by Heckel in many ways and with different techniques, such as in a painting from 1913, which is amost identical with this drawing in terms of composition. The theme is also depicted in Heckels graphics and regarded from various perspectives. Sleep as death's younger brother is given a releaxing and consoling notion in this work. [KD]
In good condition. Slightly browned. Left edge uneven, originating from the making. Upper margin with skilfully restored tears and defective spots respectively, however, barely visible.
