This impressive painting was made in a period during which Albert Bloch took on themes from the bible and the emotional state of fear. The earthen tones, emphasized by a cold blue, as well as the repeated horizontal lines, enhance the artist’s visions. The animal world seems to have outlived a type of human that has lost all humane qualities. The topic arose in the context of World War II, which particularly affected Germany, where the artist had lived and was active for more than ten years. [GD].
