In his works Otto Freundlich pays tribute to the principle of the surface. To him there is no perspective whatsoever. His two-dimensionality is based on color fields that make for a structured composition with their mutual boundaries. Additionally, they have a dynamic and mystic aura. Ít is solely the color in our composition that determines the structure of the image’s surface, it adds meaning and expressiveness to it. The plain color fields condition one another and even determine the outer form in differentiation from one another. And yet, despite all sternness of forms, lyrical-musical element that gives the composition a quite merry tone can be observed.
