Since its beginnings Wunderlich's art has been occupied with the human figure, he has been trying out many ways of staging figurative concepts between Photorealism and a surreal picture language. In 1971 he made the series "Daniela im Studio", to which our work also belongs. The paintings are based on photographic models that undergo a strong artistic modification. Wunderlich stylizes a covered female figure, with the shape of her body showing through the cloth, to an art character. But yet, the model remains in touch with the phographic reality, as the posture, the body's contours and details of her headdress stick to the model. The surrounding space, reduced to floor and wall as well as the diffused light make for a surreal atmosphere that is so characteristic of Wunderlich. [SM].
