PROVENANCE: Private collection Southern Germany.
The painter, graphic artist and stage designer Otto Schön studied at the Munich School of Arts and Crafts under Robert Engels as of 1910. Otto Schön‘s works, which take after new Objectivity, are in possession of, among others, the Bavarian State Picture Collection and Lenbachhaus, Munich. This work shows a young girl in lingerie, feeling unobserved, she closes the clasps of her shoes. The pretty model’s erotic dress as well as the harlequin doll in the background let the observer assume she could be a cabaret dancer preparing for her show. The earthe colors and the balanced light contrasts endow this painting with a very special warm atmosphere. [KH].
