Lions in the African savanna are undisputedly the favorite motifs of Kuhnert and soon became a trademark that earned him the sobriquet "Löwen-Kuhnert". This work with a dam and cubs hidden in the grass is a remarkable example of Kuhnert's mastery in animal painting.
