The original design of "Venus Bleue" was made in 1962. Yves Klein modeled it on the famous marble statue 'Venus de Milo' (also known as Aphrodite), on dispaly at the Louvre today. It is one of the most outstanding examples of Hellenic art and is considered an ideal of female beauty. Even though Kline reduced the female figure to the torso for his work, rendering it in reverse impression, the characteistic of the ancient statue remains visible.
