Halbfigur einer Frau mit verschränkten Armen. Um 1905.
Colorchalk and brush Lithograph.
Klipstein 85/II. Knesebeck 91/III B. Signed, titled and inscribed "Probedruck Zust. II". One of just a few known copies from this state. On slightly brownish board. 55 x 41.5 cm (21.6 x 16.3 in). Sheet: 64 x 49,8 cm (25,2 x 19,7 in).
The stone is the transfer of the drawing Nagel/Timm 364 on ribbed laid paper. The inscription from Kollwitz "Probedruck Zust. II" refers to the distinction Kollwitz made between the states. This is the second and last. Kollwitz did not distinguish any further, as mentioned in catalog raisonné Knesebeck.
Excellent print of the rare color lithograph.

Käthe Kollwitz's deep interest in those at the brim of society has left clear traces in her entire graphic creation. In 1891 she married Karl Kollwitz, who was active as a doctor for the poor in northern Berlin. Her already existing commitment for the deprived gained more ground in her works, but it was not pity alone that determined her motivation. She portrayed her subjects in a gracious posture and added an expression that had been unknown in visual arts by then. Especially her strong portraits of women were made in this sense. This color lithograph delivers proof of her personal commitment, the contemplative look of the portrayed woman emanates the very inner grace that is characteristic of many portraits by Käthe Kollwitz
