The invitation to be curious about what lies behind the optical presence adds a romantic notion to Imi Knoebel's seemingly straight-forward compositions. Imi Knoebel plays with the colors and allows every layer of paint its own spatial level, emphasizing the individual brushstroke despite the formal reduction.
