Verso of the canvas signed, dated "Köln, Okt, 60" and inscribed "zu Opus 31. von Schönberg". Also with direction arrow, the artist's name and an crossed out direction arrow. Verso with a label, typographically inscribed with the artist's name, date, title, dimensions, technique and the number "36". 120 x 141 cm (47.2 x 55.5 in).
The hand-written inscription "zu Opus 31. von Schönberg" on the work's rear references the 'Variationen für Orchester' by the Austrian composer Arnold Schönberg (1874-1951), which premiered under the direction of Wilhelm Furtwängler in Berlin in 1928. [CH].
PROVENANCE: Private collection Rhineland (acquired directly from the artist).
Private collection Southern Germany (acquired from aforementioned in 2005).
