In connection with the painting "Abendmahl" (Urban 316), in possession of the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen as a donation from the artist, the catalog raisonne also mentions sketches of the Apostle Heads in the Collection Gustav Schiefler, of which this work also used to be part of. [EH].
• Just as it is the case with two other works in the auction, this work also comes from the prominent collection of Gustav Schiefler, who compiled an early catalog raisonné of Nolde's graphic works.
• Rare motif from the small work period of religious images.
With a photo expertise from Prof. Dr. Manfred Reuther, former director of the Foundation Ada and Emil Nolde, Klockries, issued on January 30, 2017. The work is registered in his archive with the number "Nolde A - 130/2019".
