Beye/Baumeister 993. Signed in lower right. Verso dated, titeld and inscribed. 46 x 54 cm (18.1 x 21.2 in).

• Clear and balanced ornamentation.
• Notable provenance: Heinz Rasch, Wuppertal architect, art collector and publicist, a close friend of Baumeister since the 1920s.
PROVENANCE: Collection Heinz Rasch, Wuppertal (acquired directly from the artist).
Private collection Rhineland (obtained from aforementioned).

"What the [Africa-] pictures have in common is the hot sound of dull akin colors on white or sand-colored ground and the fierce gesture of dark hieroglyphic figures. [..]. And in many cases the figures turned to signs that can only be decrypted with a code. The series' main pictures are characterized by an almost hieratic posture, even where the figure is just fragmented and needs to be seen by the observer as a whole [..]."
