Erste Ausgabe des prachtvollen Vogelbuches. "Written by one of the greatest connaisseurs of birds of the time, the work deals with 1336 species in addition to 150 'varieties' distributed over 115 genera" (Jean Anker).
Frühes systematisch aufgebautes Werk. Französisch-lateinischer Paralleltext. "The plates, which are folded, were drawn and engraved by Martinet. Both artistically and as accurate detail studies they are better than those of the most of his predecessors" (Anker).
EINBAND: Zeitgenössischer Halblederband mit Rückenschild (Rücken erneuert). 28,5 : 21,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 6 gestochenen Titeln (wdh.), 1 gestochenen Kopfvignette, 1 gestochenen Initiale sowie 261 gefalteten Kupfertafeln von F. N. Martinet. - ZUSTAND: Stellenw. schwach gebräunt, vereinz. gering stockfleckig. Deckel beschabt und leicht bestoßen, vord. flieg. Vorsatz tlw. gelöst. Schöne Reihe, innen unbeschnitten und breitrandig. - PROVENIENZ: Innendeckel mit gestochenem Wappen-Exlibris "Philip Puleston, Esq. of Esclusham Denbighshire", lat. Titel ferner mit dessen hs.
