Reisebeschreibungen und Autobiographie des Mediziners Robert M‘Cormick (1800-1890), der unter anderem als Schiffsarzt und Naturwissenschaftler an der Forschungsreise der HMS Beagle 1831 mit Charles Darwin und auf der Antarktis-Expedition von John Ross 1839-1842 teilnahm, sowie 1852-1854 eine Bootsexpedition auf der Suche nach John Franklin leitete.
Erste Ausgabe. Enthält ferner „an account of the Parry Expedition, 1827, with notes on geology, botany and reindeer of West Spitsbergen; and plans for reaching the North Pole“; der Bericht über die Suchexpedition „with remarks on the Franklin search in general, and suggestions for the preservation of health in polar climates.“ (Arctic Bibl.). - Die Tafeln u. a. mit Panoramadarstellungen des antarktischen Ross-Schelfeises.
EINBAND: Illustrierte blaue Orig.-Leinenbände mit goldgeprägtem Rücken- und Deckeltitel. 26,5 : 18 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 61 lithographierten Tafeln (30 getönt, 5 gefaltet) und 5 Karten (2 gefaltet). - KOLLATION: XX, 432 S.; XII, 412 S. - ZUSTAND: Vorwiegend im Rand bzw. am Schnitt stockfleckig, beide Bände zu Beginn stärker betroffen, Vorsätze fleckig, Bindung gering gelockert. Kanten berieben, Kapitale mit Läsuren.

Contains amongst others accounts of the Parry expedition 1827, the Ross expedition in search for the South Pole 1839-42 and of the open-boat voyage expedition in search of Franklin 1852-54 under the command of the author, with an autobiographic appendix. With 61 lithogr. plates (30 tinted, 5 folding) and 5 (2 folding) lithogr. maps. Illustrated blue orig. cloth bindings with gilt title on spine and boards. - Mainly in the margins and on the paper edges foxed, the first leaves of both volumes stronger affected, pastedowns stained, binding slightly shaken. Edges of bindings rubbed, extremeties of spine with defects.R)
