Verso with the estate stamp (Lugt 1570b) and the hand-written number"FS Be/Bf 20". On smooth wove paper. 46 x 59 cm (18.1 x 23.2 in), almost the full sheet. [CH].
• Spontaneously captured, dynamic figure study.
• Kirchner spent the summers from 1912 to 1914 on the island of Fehmarn.
• A similar but smaller drawing of a bathing woman on the beach with rocks and a sailing boat is in the National Gallery of Art in Washington (1912/13).
- For some paintings made on Fehmarn this sheet may have served as a prelimnary sketch: "Segelboote im Sturm" (1912, Gordon 254), "Zwei badende Frauen am Strand mit Barke" (1912, Gordon 257) und "Drei Badende am Meer" (1912/20, Gordon 258).
- The motif of bathers and the nude outdoors are among the main motifs of the "Brücke" group.
