• Extraordinary format.
• Sam Francis is one of the American artists who was committed to a more lyrical form of Abstract Expressionism. - It is less about the spontaneous impulse of Action Painting but more about the poetry of color modulations.
• After a creative period in which Francis pushed the colors to the brim of the image carrier, he lay claim to the full sheet again in his later works with a gestural application of the colors.
• Other works by the artist from the 1980s are part of the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the LACMA, Los Angeles.
The work is registered at the Samuel L. Francis Foundation, Glendale/California, with the number SF86-013 and will be included into the forthcoming "Sam Francis: Catalogue Raisonné of Unique Works on Paper".
