• Fascinating exampe of Schmidt-Rottluff's masterly combination of radiant colors and formative black contours.
• Watercolors are of key importance in Schmidt-Rottluff's creation: They dominated his œuvre from the early days with the "Brücke" up until his last creative period in the 1970s.
• Between 1949 and 1953 Schmidt-Rottluff regularly visited Ticino: Schmidt-Rottluff's watercolors attained a spiritual, mystical character there.
The watercolor is documented in the archive of the Karl and Emy Schmidt-Rottluff Foundation, Berlin.
PROVENANCE: Private collection Northern Germany (acquired around 1960, ever since family-owned).
