"When I go out into nature, even if it is to a place I know very well, I am not able to sit down and paint immediately. Instead, I always have to let the surroundings work on me for some time, become completely saturated with the atmosphere around me. Once I have absorbed the basic tone, I transfer it to the canvas as a dominant color chord."
