Erste Ausgabe. Das wohl einflußreichste von Pouqueville verfaßte Werk über Griechenland.
Pouqueville (1770-1838) war ein französischer Diplomat, Arzt, Entdecker und Historiker. Er bereiste 1798 bis 1820 das von den Türken besetzte Griechenland. Er war zunächst lange in Gefangenschaft und lebte danach von 1806 bis 1814 in Janinan und anschließend noch 2 Jahre in Patras. Pouqueville wurde ein leidenschaftlicher Verfechter der Unabhängigkeit Griechenlands. - ”Pouqueville's works are probably the most familar of all books on Grece ..
