Pichet espagnol. 1954.
Ceramics. White sherd with color engobe painting and scratch decor, inside partly glazed in blue.
Numbered and inscribed “Edition Picasso” and ‘Madoura’ on the bottom of the base, as well as with the embossing stamps “Madoura Plein Feu” and “Edition Picasso.”. From an edition of 200 copies. The number of copies differs from Alain Ramié's catalogue raisonné, which mentions 150 copies. 20.5 x 24.5 x 12 cm (8 x 9.6 x 4.7 in). [CH].
• Beautifully shaped ceramic with rich details.
• Although Picasso only learned the technique late in life, he created an extensive and highly diverse body of work in Vallauris in southern France from 1946/47 onwards.
• These works repeatedly reveal the great inventiveness of arguably the most famous artist of the 20th century.
LITERATURE: Alain Ramié, Picasso. Catalogue of the edited ceramic works 1947-1971, Vallauris 1988, CR no. 245 (illustration of a different copy).
In good condition. Slightly soiled, mainly around the openings and on the handle. Slightly dusty inside. Very few tiny scuff marks, a small fiber adhesion at the transition between the handle and the opening. Tiny brownish spots or tiny discolorations on the inner edge of the front opening. Manufacturing-related, superficial material irregularities, the base is slightly uneven.
