Signed in the lower right (barely legible). On Japan paper. 20.5 x 15.6 cm (8 x 6.1 in), the full sheet.
Martin Urban explains that this small watercolor was originally bound into a copy of the Nolde's book “Das eigene Leben” (One's Own Life), Berlin, 1931. This explains why this sheet, protected for many decades between the pages of the book, still has such vibrant colors.

• Previously bound in the first edition of the book “Emil Nolde. Das eigene Leben” (1931).
• Previous owners were art collector Charles Tabachnik, Toronto, and film producer Ray Stark, Holmby Hills (CA).
Accompanied by a written confirmation of authenticity issued by Prof. Dr. Martin Urban, Sebüll, dated April 21, 1983 (copy of text page).

Mr. Ray Stark, Burbank, California, USA (since 1986: Sotheby's New York).
Private collection, California, USA (received in 2004 as a gift from the estate of Ray Stark, since then in family ownership).
