• Schrimpf's figure paintings from the 1920s are among the most important works in his oeuvre.
• A fusion of soft colors and reduced formal language.
• The window sections refer to Romantic, Biedermeier, and Renaissance portrait traditions, in which the connection between figure and landscape emphasizes the tension between the individual and the environment.
• Georg Schrimpf is one of the most important representatives of New Objectivity.
• Similar paintings are in the collections of the Nationalgalerie Berlin, the Kunsthalle Mannheim, and the Lenbachhaus Munich.
