• Renate Bertlmann is a key figure in the Austrian avant-garde.
• In her work, she subverts gender stereotypes and explores themes such as the body, desire, and vulnerability.
• Bertlmann combines conceptual and pop culture approaches, transforms pornography and kitsch, and works experimentally in a wide range of media, from photography to installation.
• In 2019, she exhibited at the Austrian Pavilion at the 58th Biennale di Venezia.
• This work was part of the comprehensive retrospective “Renate Bertlmann. Fragile Obsessions” at the Belvedere in Vienna in 2023/24.
