Das Hexameron (Sechstagewerk) des Kirchenvaters Ambrosius von Mailand kommentiert in sechs Büchern die biblische Schöpfungsgeschichte (Gen 1-2,3) und verbindet dabei allegorische Auslegung mit naturkundlichen Beobachtungen - ein Werk, das die mittelalterliche Theologie und Naturphilosophie nachhaltig prägte. "A commentary on the Creation, with many descriptions of natural phenomena derived from Pliny and others" (Poynter).
Sehr schöner breitrandiger Druck in Gotico-Antiqua von Augsburgs Zweitdrucker Johann Schüssler, der zwischen 1470 und 1473 nur etwa 10 Werke druckte.
EINBAND: Lederband um 1900 mit goldgeprägter Deckelbordüre und Rückentitel. Folio. 31,5 : 22 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Durchgehend rubriziert und mit eingemalten Lombarden in Rot. - KOLLATION: 76 nn. Bll. Got. Type. 35 Zeilen. - ZUSTAND: Ohne das letzte weiße Bl. - Titel im Oberrand mit ca. 2 cm langem Farbstrich, am Kopfsteg tls. kaum sichtbarer Wasserrand. Einbandkanten leicht berieben. Schönes Exemplar. - PROVENIENZ: Letztes Bl. mit zeitgenöss. Besitzvermerk des Dominikanerklosters Wien.

Magnificent and broadmargined print by the second printer of Augsburg, rubricated throughout and with painted lombards in red. Calf around 1900 with gilt border and title on spine. - 76 nn. leaves (without last blank). Title in upper margin with small color line of 2 cm, partly faint waterstain at upper margin (barely visible). Edges of binding slightly rubbed. Very well-preseved print.(R)
