Hauptwerk des spanischen Arztes Juan Valverde, die wohl beste und genaueste Vesal-Adaption. "The most widely read and studied book of the Renaissance" (DSB).
Zweite lateinische Ausgabe. Die spanische Originalausgabe erschien 1556. - "Valverde based his illustrations on Vesalius', although he offered fifteen new ones and improved Vesalius' with copperplates engraved by Gaspar Beccera; he also made more than sixty corrections and additions to Vesalius' work, including the description of the stapes of the ear, the short plamar muscle, the human uterus, and in particular the true nature of the cardiac septum .. Arturo Castiglioni stated that Valverde's Historia was the most widely read and studied book of the Renaissance" (DSB XIII, 569).
Einige der Illustrationen, wie der stehende, gehäutete Mann, der seine eigene Haut hält, oder die Teile sezierter Leichen in Rüstungen, zählen zu den eindrucksvollsten anatomischen Darstellungen des 16. Jahrhunderts. Neben der Überarbeitung und Ergänzung von Illustrationen nahm Valverde über sechzig Korrekturen und Ergänzungen an Vesalius' Werk vor, darunter Beschreibungen des Steigbügels, des kurzen Handmuskels, der Gebärmutter in der Schwangerschaft und des Lungenkreislaufs. Sein wohl bedeutendster Beitrag war die Darstellung der wahren Beschaffenheit der Herzscheidewand, womit er Vesalius' und Galens Irrtum korrigierte, das Blut fließe durch die Scheidewand von der rechten zur linken Herzkammer.

Ecke. Einbandrücken mit restaurierter Fehlstelle, Ecken berieben. Second Latin edition. Engr. title, engr. portrait of the author, 46 full-page engravings. Contemp. vellum. - Some browning in places, 6 leaves with a brown stain in the upper right corner. Spine with a restored tear, corners rubbed. Overall a fine copy.
