Asger Jorn
1914 - 1973

Ohne Titel. 1965.
Gouache.
Signed in the lower right. Inscribed by a hand other than that of the artist. On cardboard. 63.8 x 45.7 cm (25.1 x 17.9 in), the full sheet. [KA].

• An exceptionally light painting from the “Final Years.”
• A work of vivid color with a comprehensible method: Inspired by the décalcomanie in the upper right corner, Jorn devised the lively figurations.
• In a private collection for more than 60 years.
• The artist uses the cardboard’s hue as a “pictorial color” in this work: we interpret the “blue” as “sky,” and suddenly the figures are moving through a landscape.
• Transparency, “push and pull”—Jorn masterfully employs the variations of the “silent myth” he had developed over the years
.

The work is registered in the Jorn Archive, Silkeborg (Museum Jorn).

PROVENANCE: Private collection, Sourthern Germany (obtained from the artist in 1965).

Called up: June 13, 2026 - ca. 16.53 h +/- 20 min.

It all starts with the upper right corner. As if it were happening “by itself”, a few traces. The sheet is ready – all that remains for Jorn is to complete the “open game”. With two or three white brushstrokes, the creatures are almost within reach… The “acte gratuit” has been revealed. [AH]
