• Large-scale, expressive work from the 1980s, a period that was so seminal for Sigmar Polke’s artistic development.
• Polke at his best: ironic, complex imagery with narrative elements and subtle social satire.
• A dynamic play of power, observation, and audience engagement expressed through spontaneous, gestural lines.
• Created using Polke’s signature “layering” technique.
• The international retrospective “Alibis: Sigmar Polke 1963–2010” honored the artist’s life’s work in 2010 (Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate Modern, London; and Museum Ludwig, Cologne).
