This exquisite portrait captivates viewers with its elegant lines, arranged with great finesse by the artist. Completely without any corrections, Warhol succeeded in rendering the subject in a manner reduced entirely to surface and contour; in its perfection, the work is stylistically reminiscent of drawings by Matisse, whom Warhol had been studying at the time. The sheet comes from the collection of Warhol’s manager and longtime companion, Fred Hughes.
