Together with Angus Fairhiust, Hirst begins working on his “spin paintings“ in 1993, which he makes by means of a pottery disc. In the following, he lent the disc to customers for BP1, so that they could make their own work of art. This action is a clear example of Hirst’s critical attitude towards the art market. In the 1994 exhibition at Bruno Brunnet Fine Arts, Berlin ("Damien Hirst making beautiful drawings - an installation") Hirst is occupied with topics regarding authorship and originality, at the same time he lets visitors make use of his “spin“ machine.
