The horse is the animal that fascinated the artist Georg Ehrlich from childhood on: "Their soft mouths that I fed with sugar elated me. At home they called me the 'Little Coachman'. [..]. Only now, at an old age, is time for me to depict the carriage horse from my childhood in a bronze." (Georg Ehrlich, quote after Georg Ehrlich, sketchbook, New York 1962, no page). In this context the elegant horse's head with lively, natural patina is both childhood memory as well as an expression of the older artists creative powers. [KP].
