Bierkrug mit Silberdeckel. Um 1890, Russia.
Glass and silver.
15 cm (5,9 in).
Mug made of colorless lead crystal. Faceted shape with applied handle. Wall with rich facet decor and line carving. Bottom with cut star. With mounted silver lid. Medal mounted to lid. Outside with image of tsarisa "МАТЪ ОТЕУЕСТВА". High relief artist's signature "C. Leberecht, F." below image. Inside of lid partly gilded, except for image. There with allegoric figure of architecture showing the tsarisa construction plans. Inscribed "CE КАКО ΛЮБИТЪ Ю" in banner above. Below inscribed "Г6#1045;НВАРЯ" and "1.ДНЯ 1779 ГОДА". Bottom of image with artist's monogram "C.L.F."
Punched at handle's mount with, among others, purity mark "84" and maker's mark, lid punched with purity mark "84", a town mark (presumably for Orjol) and hallmark "CHS".

Carl von Leberecht (1749 - 1827) was medallion maker at the St. Petersburg mint. On a scholarship from tsarisa Catherine II. he studied in Rome from 1783 to 1785. He was honorary member and professor of the St. Petersburg Academy. He was appointed head medallion maker and director of the St. Petersburg mint by tsar Paul I. His medallions and cameos with allegoric illustrations of Russia'a history are in possession of, among others, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
