PROVENANCE: From artist's estate.

EXHIBITION: Arnold Rechberg (1879-1947). Zwischen Kunst und Politik, Museum der Stadt Bad Hersfeld, Kapitelsaal, 17 July - 12 September, 1993, cat. no. G3.

Just as the other painting "Die Verdammten", which is also offered in our auction, the work "Die Läuterung" also speaks a striking symbolist language and reveals resonances of Art Nouvea. With greta mastery Arnold Frédéric Rechberg describes a mystic scene, which presumably is also based on Dante's "Divina Commedia". The four figures execute their deeply symbolic actions in front of a dramatic background. [KP].
