Selbst. 1962.
Pencil drawing with yellow chalk.
Barely legibly signed, dated "10 10 62" and titled in lower half of image. On laid paper. 46,5 x 31,2 cm (18,3 x 12,2 in), the full sheet.
Looking at the observer with a contemplative facial expression, the face's left half in a hatchured shade, this is how Janssen presents himself in this work. Once again he proves his standing as one of Germany's most important graphic artists of the 20th century. His comprehensive oeuvre receives numerous honors, among others, the Grand Prize of the Venice Biennale in 1968. [DB].

PROVENANCE: Private collection North Rhine-Westphalia.
