Gallery sale: € 5,700 / $ 6,270
Weg mit Bäumen. 1911.
Woodcut in colors in blue and red, hand-made proof.
Schapire H 69. With embossed artist's monogram "SR" and signed and numbered by the printer. Verso with copyright stamp of the "Karl und Emy Schmidt-Rottluff-Stiftung". Copy from an edition of 50 on this type of paper. On firm laid paper by Zerkall (Alt Cleve). 38.4 x 50 cm (15.1 x 19.6 in). Sheet: 50 x 68 cm (19,6 x 26,7 in).
The limited edition of this woodcut was made from the artist's original wooden block (Möller 26) in 2013 at the art printshop "Clemens Büntig Editionen" and was published by "Ernst Rathenau Kunsthandel und Verlag".
Prints from this woodcut were only executed in black and in shades of gray respectively, however, color pigments in the printing block indicate that a proof in this tinge was also executed. The forms of the trees and the landscape have been radically recued and the red of the sky makes for a flaming evening scene. It is an expressionist landscape par excellence.
Limited anniversary edition for the benefit of the Brücke Museum Berlin.
For the first time executed in colors.
This motif has only been offered twice on the international auction market - both times in black and white only (source: www.artnet.de).
Woodcut in colors in blue and red, hand-made proof.
