PROVENANCE: Private collection Rhineland.

"The study of effects of light and air in nature became the credo of his artistic creation, in order to implement nature's beauty with all its colors and forms in painterly atmospheric landscapes. This approach of experiencing and studying nature and its laws made for an artistic quintessence that would become decisive for the following fruitful years of the landscape painter Karl Hagemeister." (Dr. Henrikje Warmt, Berlin, in her expertise from October 2015). In 1885 he made a painting with a comparable subject: "Zwei Frauen im Rübenfeld" (WARMT G 165), today in possession of the Nationalgalerie in Berlin.
