"Orientierung II" is among the first works in which Fruhtrunk gave up the exact delimitation of the color trails, giving the color a transparent character. What else is so unique in his oeuvre is the symmetric structure of the picture. With regards to the work series, Fruhtrunk told the architect Klaus Huneke, who remodeled his house in Périgny-sur-Yerres, that it was an "Experiment". The rhythm of lines and color fields successively unfolds in front of the observer's eye, evoking a permanent change of perception between front and background. Fruhtrunk shows color as an optical energy, this approach makes him a representative of Concrete art. [EL]
