Essay
Our untitled acrylic painting from 2002 once more shows the degree of ease and implicitness that Günther Förg needs to fully display the colors' sensual power: A gestural, seemingly coincidentally rendered lucent grid brings out the soft colors of the underground through the interspaces. The observer may think of a rusty grid and the last rays of a setting sun. The abstraction inevitably offers a range of free associations. In this context the picture is a catalyst of stirring sentiments, a subtle guidepost into an emotional memory. This work is a document of Förg's mastery in touching the observer deep inside with extremely reduced artistic means.
