"I have always been fascinated by the abstract. It is so mysterious, offers so much to discover."
Gerhard Richter, 2011

To Richter abstract painting is a permanent challenge and a platform that offers a lot of room for various simultaneous actions and emotions. ”My presence, my reality, my problems and difficulties and my contradictions“ (Dorothea Detrich and Gerhard Richter, Gerhard Richter: An Interview, Print Collector`s Newsletter, 16, 1985, p. 128). The different superimposed paint structures show an abstract, material-related treatment of the color, so that the result always references its origination process. Gerhard Richter created a new form of abstract painting at a point where its forms and possibilities of expression were almost considered exhausted. He is able to create paintings that offer a very special independent visual experience.
