Essay
While works from the early 1970s showed the influence of Minimalism on Goldstein's art, later works made towards the end of the decade are documents of his turning away from this art tendency. Eventually it was his gaudy, often large-sized creations creations based on photographs that captivated the observer with their tremendous opulence of colors. At the peak of the artist's career in the late 1980s the work offered here came into existence. It is particularly fascinating for its strong and vibrant yet harmonious coloring. Abstraction in this work is conceived in a way that it leaves the observer with the impression that it may suggest something concrete, something beyond the actual subject. Additionally, this work also references the technological display of physical phenomena, a common feature of many of Goldstein's works. In this context our wok offers a large variety of interpretations that open up ever new perspectives for the observer. [SM]
