Unten rechts signiert. On creme wove paper, upper edge perforated. 31 x 37.5 cm (12.2 x 14.7 in), the full sheet.
The sheet was presumably made from the first floor of the artist's sumemr house on Wannsee. It shows the waterside of the so-called 'Wannseegarten' in northeast duirection. [CE].

This work's authenticity has kindly been confirmed in written form by Drs. Margreet Nouwen, Berlin.

PROVENANCE: Galerie Neher, Essen (with label on rear of frame).
Private collection Great Britain.

"Above all lands this beauty patch smiles at me. (ille terrarum mihi praeter omnes angulus ridet.)" - In 1921 Liebermann used these words from the 6th ode of Horace to describe his beloved summer house on Wannsee. Remote from the bustling city it offered him a perfect retreat in nature. (Cf. J. E. Howoldt, in: Im Garten von Max Liebermann, Bonn/Berlin 2004, p. 11)
