[SM]. • What is so characteristic of the later pictures is the use of the line, which shows in an unprecedented degree of reduction. • The line carries the composition, supported by delicate gray tones that underline the graphic character of the work. • Delicate and yet determined, Feininger succeeds in putting real worlds into an almost dreamlike atmosphere.
