• Hendrik Willem Mesdag was one of the main representatives of the impressionist Hague School.
• The fishing boats observed on the beach of Scheveningen near The Hague are a characteristic motif in his work.
• Mesdag combines the traditional Dutch marine genre with a modern, impressionist form of expression
