Bottom rigth with inscription "1er etat FL". On a piece of paper attached on the reverse verified "Œuvre authentique de F. Leger N. Leger" by Madame Léger and stamped "F.L." . On firm paper. 33.4 x 41.3 cm (13.1 x 16.2 in), size of sheet.
Inscribed with the estate number "N°G. 269 - 1" and titled on the reverse by a hand other than that of the artist.

With a photo expertise from Mrs Irus Hansma, Muri, dated November 07, 2021. The work will be included into the forthcoming catalog raisonné of works on paper.

Im Werk von Fernand Léger spielt der Bezug zur Architektur, zur modernern Großstadt und Technik immer ein ezentrale Rolle, was sich unter anderem auf seine frühe Ausbildung in einem Architekturbüro und seine Bekanntschaft mit Le Corbusier zurückführen lässt. Bereits ab 1925 fertigt er die ersten dekorativen Wandgestaltungen an und ist unter anderem an der Dekoration des UNO-Gebäudes in New York beteiligt. Nach der Rückkehr aus den USA, wo Léger sich während des Zweiten Weltkriegs aufhält, träumt er davon, die grauen Betonfassaden der modernen Großstädte mit Farbe zu beleben. In der Vorstudie von "Gaz de France" trifft seine lebenslange Begeisterung für die baubezogene Kunst schließlich auf den reifen und gelöst wirkenden Stil seines Spätwerks. Das Mosaik wurde nach dem Tod des Künstlers von seiner Frau Nadia Léger fertiggestellt und ist bis heute eine überlebensgroßes zeugnis seiner großen Leidenschaft für Architektur, Form und Farbe.
